About the author

Daan van de Pol was born in Amsterdam in 1985. In 2003 he graduated high school and in 2004 he started his study at the Academy of Physical Education in Amsterdam. In 2008 he obtained his degree of Physical Education teacher. In the same year he began to study Medicine at the University of Amsterdam. During his study he started doing research on vascular pathology in the shoulder of elite volleyball players at the departments of Radiology and Occupational Medicine at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, which drew national and international media attention. After receiving his MD degree in February 2015 this research was continued as a PhD project, which was completed after nine months. At the moment Daan is working as MD in training for specialization in Sports Medicine at the Haaglanden Medisch Centrum (H+MC) in the Hague.

Friday April 1st 2016 Daan van de Pol succesfully defended his PhD-thesis and obtained his doctor degree at the University of Amsterdam.

His promotor was prof dr. Mario Maas and his copromotores were dr. Paul Kuijer and dr. Nils Planken.
